Nostalgia - 2009, "You spread the colors" - A very big thank you to all of you

Dear All,

This is probably the last mail from the Alumni Committee regarding Nostalgia '09. And it also marks the end of an event which was truly fabulous to state the least. The event garnered praises from the alumni as well as the college authorities and our batch mates. The efforts and the sleepless nights spent by the most of you have finally paid off.

The Alumni Committee wishes to thank each and every one of you who made Nostalgia '09 a memorable event. We wouldn't have been able to pull off this event without the support and contribution of all those who participated in its making. Congratulations to all of you!!

We would like to acknowledge the efforts put in by a certain few. So here it goes:

The decorations team: The hard work you all put in cannot be expressed in words. You all spent days and nights planning and implementing the entire display. And your hardwork was indeed noticed and appreciated by the alumni.

We would like to thank our creative minds Vidhisha Shah, Kshama Singhania, Vaibhavi Damania, Priyaj Shah, Megha Saraf, Hersh Lulla, Shweta Goyal without whom all the beautiful decorations wouldn't have conceptualized.

We would specially like to thank our creative heads- Jinesh Vasa, Amish Dalal, Jigar Dharamshi and Nidhi Jain  for ensuring that the entire process goes on smoothly. They have worked as an excellent co-ordinators between the alumni committee and the decorations team. Whether it was co-ordinating with the ALCOM for materials or delegating tasks to the juniors we knew that the job was given in responsible hands.

Also, it goes without saying that the creative team would have been incomplete without the support of a host of juniors who volunteered and helped their seniors out with the decorations even if it meant bunking lectures and staying back late in the nights. With you all around we are rest assured that we have nothing to worry about Nostalgia '10 ;).Out of those who came in regularly were Nayan, Khushboo...

In addition, special praise for all the committee members who worked for the decor of their own rooms to ensure that the interiors of SIMSR look as beautiful as the well decorated campus.

The Banners and the Videos team: Jigar for working diligently on the videos namely the SIMSR movie which was applauded by one and all present in the auditorium. Evellyn for helping us make the phenomenal teasers. You guys spent endless hours on your laptops and gave us some never seen before creative outputs.

The Culturals team: Guys, you all rocked the stage. The alumni as well as the DG were all left stunned by your performances. The audience was enthralled by your flawless and energetic performances. Each one of you put in your best on the stage. You all practiced and rehearsed all through the day to ensure that each and every move of yours is well coordinated and synchronised.

We would like to congratulate the dance team for their excellent choreography and coordination. The dancers were namely:Kamal, Rahul(PGB 1st yr), Shrenik, Amit Mittal,Mitesh, Rudro, Tuseet, Riddhi Shah(mms 2nd yr marketing),Neha Jain , Priya,Vineeta, Richa, Preeti Tola, Rajdeep (PG A 1st yr),Mitul,Mohit Handa,  Gargi Singh, Khushboo, Riddhi Shah - MMS 2nd yr (finance) ,Anusree Paranjpe ,Charu Vyas, Kavish, Jaya, Manushi, Garvita, Wilma, Ankita , Ayushi.

However, Kamal Ravi, Richa Tripathi, Vineeta  Nair deserve a special mention here. Guys you'll were the ones who pulled all the strings together to put together an awesome show. You pushed each and every dancer for putting in that extra lil bit. Whether it was coordinating with the alumni committee or devising the entire sequence or coordinating with rest of the dancers you'll worked excellently.

The SIMSR music band take a bow.

We would also like to thank all our volunteers who escorted our alumni and helped us out with the registration, helped us with culturals in the audi and miscellaneous tasks on the D-day.

With the long list of those who helped in the making, we regret if in case we have missed out on any. Once again, congratulations to all of you for making this event a grand success!!!!  Kudos!!

"Elaan - e - Yudh: The Battle before the War..."

You can only take two sides in a battle... the victor or the vanquished...
You can only be one of the two in a jungle... the hunter or the hunted...

Two months into the grueling MBA course you must have learnt that everything has a process to it and there is a method even in madness .
You have woken up to pack your bags, snatch a sandwich and rush to your classrooms ... but now things are going to change... it’s time you wake up... draw your swords... find the chinks in your armour and get ready for the real battle.

It’s the start of a new season and all eyes will be on the warriors who show their mettle, their grit, their killer instinct and fight for pride and glory.

Come 4th September 2009, the warriors will descend onto the real battlefield with Men competing for Cricket, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis and Chess and Women competing for Box-cricket, Throwball, Volleyball and Table Tennis.

The ones who stand out in this 3 day war-fest will be anointed as the new Torchbearers of SIMSR SPORTS to take it to the new unscaled peaks.

At the dawn of 4th September, as the sun rises in the east and as the battle lines are drawn, the war-cry will mark the beginning of
"Elaan-e-Yudh – The Battle before the War".

Then after working there for two years he returned back to India – Nashik and bought a huge grape plantations => wineries in Nasik, itself.
It took him two years to get a license. Till then he arranged for finance, plantation preparation, etc. As a result there was just 4-5months time lag. The company was named after Mr.Sawant’s mother.
In the 1st year the company sold sold 4000 cases and the production increased to 3 million bottles in 2007-08.
As of now it is the Biggest premium wine company in India.
The company has 40 wineries in Nashik and around 250 employee. They export to 15 countries – US, UK, France, etc
Took a big risk when he left US, but it paid off well and now India is the fastest growing wine market.

The next module was a panel discussion on Challenges for Entrepreneurs which was followed by question and answers. Below is a excerpt from the same.

“In the economic downturn, how do entrepreneurs handle different aspects of building organizations?”
I] How is this downturn different from the previous one?
1It is Integrated economic environment and countries like India, China etc also impacted but not to that extent
2.This time, downturn was driven by poor spending habits
.3.Impact is higher when you bump into a speed breaker while running at a faster speed.

Remedy – cut down our earnings for the betterment of the society.
II] Any specific characteristic of the downturn that affected any particular sector or company (of the panelist)?
Very nice opportunities for start-ups as job losses are high, Customer are facing problems as they require Faster response time and on top of it, this is bad time for Venture Capitalists due to fall in stock market.

III] Can we avoid VCs?
They are Vulture Capitalist and not Venture Capitalist so we can't avoid their eyes. Also the funds are sacrosanct.

IV] Massive bail-outs by government for companies, are there any incentives for self-employment?
Self-will and motivation should be the driving force. Govt. comes later. Entrepreneur needs to bail himself out. Make value for self. Also it is observed that Healthcare and agriculture are not much affected by the downturn. One key point is to “Keep the government as far as possible”. And during this recessionary times Deserving people will get jobs, undeserving will get corrected.

V] Would you start a new venture at this time? In which sector?
Yes, new venture is always an option. It might be Outsourcing or legal outsourcing busines, online book ordering, other online services. Also Movie rentals like seventy mm and bigflix are also good options.

VI] Recent attacks would put India in a different zone of terror. Does the attack put you on the back foot with your key competitor?
Even US had its 9/11. People respect you more if you come out stronger of all this. The world is together for terrorism
Tourism will be affectedand new opportunities like security ventures , karate classes for kids etc. can be looked into

At the end :
Mr. Prashant Bhaskar
“Befriend the top-graders, as they would be your future employees. Make them feel you are in awe of them and at the same time let them make them look up to you”.

Thus, Day 1 at Samavesh Ended with encouragement for all the budding Entrepreneurs and also giving inspiration to be an Entrepreneur.
